In Tretāyuga two demons named Siṁdhudaitya & Kamalāsura did a penance to please Sūrya Bhagavāna (God Sun) which made them possible to establish a kingdom over three worlds. They locked all gods in their dungeons. In such a events of crisis Devī Pārvatī who is a goddess of Śakti performed austere penance to please Gaṇeśa in the cave of Lekhanagirī i.e. Leṇyādrī mountain. Gaṇeśa appeared and blessed the goddess Śakti. To destroy the power of a Demon Siṁdhu, a peacock was created from the womb of Viniti, wife of Sage Kaśyapa. Mounted on this peacock, Lord Gaṇeśa killed the demons Siṁdhudaitya & Kamalāsura. The idol of Śrī Mayureśvara is the idol installed by Paṁcadeva in Tretāyuga on the Bhādrapada Shukla Chaturthi (fourth day of bright half of the Bhādrapada Month). This idol is present even today at Morgaon to bless devotees. Gaṇeśa slayed the Siṁdhudaitya by mounting on a peacock hence the Paṁcadeva named Gaṇeśa as Mayureśvara.
